DESCRIPTION:Please join the North Carolina Coalition for Alternatives to the Death Penalty (NCCADP) on Friday\, October 4th\, at 6:30 p.m. for a screening of the film “Racist Roots” at Mt. Bright Baptist Church (211 W Union St. Hillsborough\, NC 27727.) “Racist Roots” is a powerful 25-minute film that reveals North Carolina’s death penalty’s deep entanglement with slavery\, lynching and racism. Following the film\, author and pastor\, Dewey Williams\, will offer remarks entitled “Joy in Abolition.” There will also be a community potluck prior to the program at 6 pm. Please sign up for the potluck here. Special thanks to the Orange County Community Remembrance Coalition and Mt. Bright Church for hosting this event. \nThis event is part of NCCADP’s 136-mile Walk for Commutation\, calling on Governor Cooper to commute all death sentences. DESCRIPTION:Join us for the culmination of our 136-mile Walk for Commutation on October 10th\, World Day Against the Death Penalty. Our final stop will be in the sanctuary of Pullen Memorial Baptist Church at 7 p.m. for a program filled with songs\, spoken word and conversation with one another. Singer/ songwriter Britton Buchanan will join us once again sharing several originals. We’ll celebrate the work of our Commutation Campaign thus far and recommit to the work that lies ahead.
