SUMMARY:Racist Roots Screening: Chelsea Theater\, Chapel Hill
DESCRIPTION:Join us on the anniversary of NC’s last execution for a very special in-person screening of Racist Roots\, a 25-minute film that exposes the modern death penalty’s deep entanglement with slavery\, lynching & white supremacy. The film will be followed by a panel discussion with James Williams\, the former chief public defender for Orange & Chatham counties; UNC-CH Professor Seth Kotch\, whose book\, Lethal State\, chronicles the history of the NC death penalty; and Dawn Blagrove\, executive director of Emancipate NC. Spoken word artist Nick Courmon will also debut his new piece\, “Poison Fruit.” \nEvent is free\, but registration is required. \nFor those unable to attend in person at the Chelsea Theater\, go this link for the livestream on our Facebook page. There is no registration required o attend online.  This livestream will include the program and panel discussion portions of the event. The livestream will go dark during the screening of the film. You can watch the film from the Center for Death Penalty Litigation’s YouTube page here. The link will be provided in the comments during the livestream as well. \nWe regret we won’t have the capacity to take Q&A or respond to comments from the livestream. We encourage you to participate in a future online Racist Roots discussion to engage with others about the film. Sign up for our emails to learn about online community screenings or visit racistroots.org/film to schedule a screening for your community group. \n  \n
