SUMMARY:Racist Roots Screening at UNC Asheville
DESCRIPTION:Please join us for a screening of Racist Roots on the campus of UNC-Asheville in the Mullen & James Humanities Hall. This powerful short film traces the modern North Carolina death penalty’s deep entanglement with slavery\, lynching and racism. Based on an online project of The Center for Death Penalty\, the film includes the stories and voices of people on NC’s death row\, as well as artists\, historians and advocates. NCCADP is pleased to partner with the UNC-A Department of Sociology and Anthropology and several student organizations for this event. The film will be followed by a panel discussion and Q&A with the NCCADP team: death row exoneree Alfred Rivera\, community organizer Nick Courmon\, and director Noel Nickle. Nick will also share spoken word. This event is free and open to the community. PAL credit is available for UNC-A students.
