SUMMARY:Racist Roots Film Screening and Commutation Community Conversation in New Bern\, NC
DESCRIPTION:Please join the North Carolina Coalition for Alternatives to the Death Penalty (NCCADP) and the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of New Bern (UUFNB) on Tuesday\, February\, 27th at 6 pm for a film screening and community conversation about the Commutation Campaign to end death row in North Carolina. This free event will be held at the UUFNB located at 308 Meadows St in New Bern\, and all are welcome.\n \n“Racist Roots” is a powerful 25-minute film that reveals the North Carolina death penalty’s deep entanglement with slavery\, lynching\, and racism. Following the film there will be a panel discussion and Q&A. Panelists will include Talina Massey\, a former Alderwoman; Jameesha Harris\, a member of the Board of Advisors for the African American Heritage & Cultural Center of New Bern; Alfred Rivera\, a NC Death Row exoneree; and Nick Courmon\, a descendant of a lynching victim in Craven County. Nick Courmon will share spoken word as well and the evening will also include a call to action to write a postcard to Gov. Cooper calling on him to commute all NC death sentences. This is a free event and all are welcome!
