SUMMARY:Racist Roots Screening and Panel Discussion for NC State University Social Work Department
DESCRIPTION:On November 14th\, 10-noon\, NCCADP will partner with author Tessie Castillo to screen the film for the NC State University Social Work Department. Racist Roots is a film based on The Center for Death Penalty Litigation’s online project\, RacistRoots.org. This powerful 25-minute film explores the NC death penalty’s deep entanglement with slavery\, lynching and racism — and inspires people to join the movement to transform our state’s criminal legal system. It includes the voices of advocates\, artists and directly impacted people. In addition to Ms. Castillo\, panelists will include Gretchen Engel\, Director of CDPL; Noel Nickle\, Director of NCCADP; and Michael (Alim) Braxton\, a writer and rapper incarcerated on NC’s death row. This event will be held at Campbell University School of Law. It is open for students at NC State School of Social Work and their guests\, but if you would like to request a similar event by zoom or in person\, please use this google form.
