SUMMARY:Racist Roots Screening and Panel Discussion at NC Central University
DESCRIPTION:NCCADP will partner with the North Carolina Central University Social Work Department to present the newly released film Racist Roots\, a project of The Center for Death Penalty Litigation. Racist Roots is a powerful short film that reveals the North Carolina death penalty’s deep entanglement with slavery\, lynching and racism – and  inspires people to join the movement to transform the criminal legal system. Panelists include Noel Nickle\, director of NCCADP\, Lynda Simmons\, who lost her son to homicide and is a restorative justice advocate\, and Will Elmore\, co-founder of Wounded Hearts. The evening will also include spoken word by poet and NCCADP Community Engagement Coordinator Nick Courmon. Phi Alpha Social Work Honor Society is hosting the event. It is free\, open to the public\, and no registration is required.
