NC Coalition for Alternatives to the Death Penalty
Committed to ending the death penalty and creating a new vision of justice
Please join the North Carolina Coalition for Alternatives to the Death Penalty (NCCADP) and UNC-CH professors Frank Baumgartner and Mark Katz for an evening featuring the film Racist Roots, music by Alim Braxton who lives on NC’s death row, and spoken word by nationally award-winning poet Nick Courmon. “Racist Roots” is a powerful 25-minute film that reveals North Carolina’s death penalty’s deep entanglement with slavery, lynching and racism. Following the film, Mr. Braxton will call in to respond to questions. The program will take place in Howell Hall (rm 115) located at 213 E Cameron Ave. on the campus of UNC.
This event is part of NCCADP’s 136-mile Walk for Commutation, calling on Governor Cooper to commute all death sentences. Participants will have the opportunity to write postcards to the Governor.
