2025 Impact Report

February 4, 2026

The NC Coalition for Alternatives to the Death Penalty is proud to share our first-ever impact report, reflecting on a pivotal year for North Carolina’s death penalty abolition movement.

From the triumph of 15 lives saved at the end of our Commutations Campaign to repeated legislative efforts to bring back state killing after nearly 20 years without, we navigated both the fragility and the power of progress in 2025. Now as we make sure that executions do not return to North Carolina, our work is more urgent than ever.

Amidst this volatile backdrop, we witnessed the collective power of people, with communities across the state mobilizing for justice again and again. We centered people, relationships, and collaboration. We learned together and found joy even in turbulent times. With grassroots strength and strategy, we are resisting state violence – and building a better future.
