Nearly 1/3 of people on NC’s death row are senior citizens, 60 years or older. Throughout the 90‘s, NC prosecutors were legally required to seek death for every aggravated first degree murder. NC’s 1990s-era law preventing prosecutors from declaring cases non-capital is particularly striking. Our message to Governor Roy Cooper is clear: Commute Death Row!

Jean Parks lost her sister Betsy to homicide in Ra

Jean Parks lost her sister Betsy to homicide in Raleigh in 1975, and has long believed that the man who served time for the crime was innocent.

She even met with him in 2019 to discuss how he had been victimized by the criminal legal system and how wrong she felt that was.

Jean is an outspoken anti-death penalty advocate who works tirelessly to end the death penalty here in North Carolina. We want to honor Jean's tremendous empathy and also her determination not to repeat cycles of violence in NC.

📢 We’re thrilled to announce NCCADP's Walk fo

📢 We’re thrilled to announce NCCADP's Walk for Commutation! The walk will begin in just four weeks on September 26th in Winston-Salem and will end on October 10th in Raleigh, shining a light on Forsyth and Wake Counties which sentence more people to death than any other counties in our state.

👟 Over the course of the two weeks the NCCADP team will walk 136 miles to raise awareness of the 136 lives at risk of execution in our state, and we will call even more loudly on Governor Cooper to eliminate that risk by commuting death sentences before he leaves office.

✨ YOU are invited to walk, roll or bike with us as we make our way to Raleigh one step at a time. We will average about 10 miles a day, walking a couple of hours in the morning and in the afternoon. We also have a kick off media conference and 5 evening programs already planned during the two weeks. Please join us! And stay tuned for other ways to support the Walk for Commutation from afar.

🏘️ Go to our Walk for Commutation page link in our bio for more information, including our route and a day by day tentative schedule and a google form to sign up to walk for a few minutes or many miles. Our walk route is still a work in progress but look for more details on the spreadsheet by the end of next week. We especially invite you to join us for our concluding event on October 10th at 7 p.m. at Pullen Memorial Church in Raleigh as we mark World Day Against the Death Penalty.

🙌 Many of you were with us when we began this journey with the launch of our Commutation Campaign in December 2022. Thank you for all the postcards written, letters signed, and miles you've already walked! We’re about to embark on the final leg of this campaign, and we hope you will join us as we cross the finish line together! 🏁
