Racist Roots Film Screening and Panel Discussion at App State University

April 14 @ 4:00 pm - 5:30 pm

Join us Sunday, April 14th from 4-5:30 pm at the Plemmons Student Union (Room 226- Linville Falls) on the campus of Appalachian State University for The Racist Roots of the NC’s death penalty and the Commutation Campaign to end it! Racist Roots is a powerful 25-minute film that reveals North Carolina death penalty’s deep entanglement with slavery, lynching, and racism. Following the film Lynda Simmons, who lost her son to homicide, will offer comments and respond to Q& A. The afternoon will be moderated by North Carolina Coalition for Alternatives to the Death Penalty director Noel Nickle and will conclude with a call to action to write Gov. Cooper asking him to commute all death sentences.

This event is presented by the North Carolina Coalition for Alternatives to the Death Penalty in partnership with Appalachian State Master of Social Work students and the Criminal Justice Club. Racist Roots is a project of the Center for Death Penalty Litigation.
