Racist Roots Film Screening and Panel Discussion at Central United Methodist Church in Asheville

Join us Wednesday, May 8th at 5:30pm at Central United Methodist Church in Asheville, NC for The Racist Roots of the NC’s death penalty and the Commutation Campaign to end it! Racist Roots is a powerful 25-minute film that reveals North Carolina death penalty’s deep entanglement with slavery, lynching, and racism. Following the film Jean Parks, who lost her sister to homicide, will offer comments and respond to Q& A. The afternoon will be moderated by North Carolina Coalition for Alternatives to the Death Penalty director Noel Nickle and will conclude with a call to action to write Gov. Cooper asking him to commute all death sentences. Doors will open at 5pm for refreshments!
Parking is available on Church Street and in lots behind the church on Buncombe Street
This event is presented by the North Carolina Coalition for Alternatives to the Death Penalty in partnership with Central United Methodist Church (CUMC) Church and Society Committee. Racist Roots is a project of the Center for Death Penalty Litigation.
