NC Coalition for Alternatives to the Death Penalty
Committed to ending the death penalty and creating a new vision of justice
NCCADP will partner with local organizers in Winston Salem for a Racist Roots screening at The Community Mosque of Winston Salem (1419 Waughtown St). In addition to focusing on the systemic racism of the death penalty, this event will shine a light on the power of the Forsyth County district attorney, who is up for election in November. Early voting begins October 20th, and the outcome of this DA race could dramatically impact the use of the death penalty in NC. Panelists will include Imam Khalid Griggs, exoneree and NCCADP new team member Alfred Rivera, andd Phoebe Zerwick, author of Beyond Innocence: The Life Sentence of Darryl Hunt. Our own Nick Courmon will offer spoken word. We are especially grateful for the invitation to host this event at the Community Mosque, a faith community deeply engaged in intersectional justice work and the former spiritual home of Darryl Hunt.
