Walk for Commutation: Racist Roots Screening & Panel in Winston-Salem

September 26 @ 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm

Please join us as we kick off our 136-mile Walk for Commutation in Winston-Salem on September 26th! At 6:30 p.m. come see the powerful 25-minute film “Racist Roots” that reveals North Carolina’s death penalty’s deep entanglement with slavery, lynching, and racism. Following the film, Brenda Hooks, whose son is on NC’s death row, will offer comments and respond to Q&A. National award winning poet and NCCADP Community Engagement Coordinator Nick Courmon will also perform spoken word poetry. There will also be postcards for participants to sign calling on Governor Roy Cooper to commute all death sentences.

Prior to the film screening, we’ll gather for a community potluck. Please bring a dish to share. The potluck and film screening will be held at The Hub at Augsburg Community Center, located at 502 N Broad St. Please enter through the upper door, using the ramp. The potluck will be in the cafe downstairs. Find more information about the Walk for Commutation here and sign up to walk with NCCADP at this link. Thank you to Love Out Loud, our hosts for the evening!
