Many thanks to Asheville Friends Meeting for welcoming us for a screening of Racist Roots. Our Executive Director Noel Nickle and summer intern Sofi Zuber were grateful to spend the afternoon alongside Niconda Garcia and everyone who joined us to explore the history of North Carolina's death penalty and the racism that has shaped it from the beginning.

On Monday, August 10, join us at St. James Episcopal Church in Black Mountain for a screening of Racist Roots, followed by a discussion with Noel Nickle, Robert Udashen, and Alfred Rivera, who was exonerated after spending years on North Carolina's death row.

Twenty years after North Carolina's last execution Twenty years after North Carolina's last execution the death penalty is still deeply entrenched in our state's legal system. Where do we go from here? 

Join us August 22 for a public symposium featuring people directly impacted by the death penalty alongside attorneys, advocates, scholars, and other experts as we explore the true costs of capital punishment and the future of justice in our state.
